A Going Church for a Coming Christ

Who We Are
Why We Are Here

Basic Beliefs:
We believe the Bible is the inspired record of God's revelation of Himself to man and is the perfect treasure of divine instruction. Man was created by a special act of God and was endowed by his Creator with the freedom of choice. All human beings are sinful beings and are thus unable to have a relationship with God. Salvation is wholly a work of God involving the redemption of the entire man (body, soul and spirit). Salvation is offered freely to all who commit themselves to Christ as Lord and Savior, thus enabling man to enter into a relationship with the living God. The return of Christ for His Church is near, and the Christian's responsibility is to live in a way pleasing to our Master.

Affiliation:
Millers Creek Baptist Church is in voluntary cooperation with the local Brushy Mountain Baptist Association of churches, the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina, and the Southern Baptist Convention. As a participating church in the 15 million member evangelical denomination, we support over 5,000 foreign missionaries, over 5,000 US missionaries, and 6 theological seminaries. North Carolina Baptists support 1 hospital, 6 retirement homes, 6 colleges, and 8 children's homes.

Church Membership:
We receive new members from other Bible-believing churches by statement of faith, immersion, or by letter. We receive new believer's as they follow the Lord in believer's baptism. Children may become members through baptism upon receiving Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior.

Communion is celebrated at least four times a year and is open to all believers. Parents are invited to dedicate their children to God on designated Sundays.

Our average Sunday School attendance is 316 and our average worship attendance in two morning services is 522.

History:
Millers Creek Baptist Church began as a community mission in the late 1950's and met in the upstairs of the Millers Creek Fire Department. The first Sunday school meeting was in October 1958, with 21 present. The first worship service was in February 1959. Millers Creek Baptist Church was constituted December 6 that same year with a charter membership of 26 believers.

A sanctuary and educational wing were constructed in February 1962 with an additional wing and church office built in 1973.

The church outgrew these facilities during the 60’s and 70’s. Lack of space and limited parking contributed to a decline in attendance. In 1981 approximately 14 acres of land was purchased. This property included the old Millers Creek school building, a well-built brick facility. Six years later the first of four phases of renovations was begun. The first worship service in our current building was on September 18, 1988.

The church began the Millers Creek Christian School in September 1997 with two, three, and four year olds. We now have over 160 students enrolled through the seventh grade and also an after-school care program which is open not only to our school children, but those who attend the public schools. Our church believes the school is a vital ministry to our community.

FAITH: Sunday School Outreach Evangelism was started in 1998 and has contributed greatly in reaching the un-churched of our community. Our monthly CARE ministry keeps us in touch within and without the church. Upward Basketball was started in 2002-2003 and we now have nearly 600 children participating in kindergarten through grade twelve. Our Vacation Bible School enrollment exceeded 400 in 2005 & 2006. An excellent discipleship program is strengthening our people. Strong children and youth ministries have attributed greatly to our growth and the excitement of our church.

Our 21,000  sq. foot addition to house our Christian School and our children/youth Sunday School is now complete. Thanks to everyone who helped and sacrificed to make this happen for the glory of God.
